October 8, 2007

Today I decided that I am going to place in the Winter Buckeye Trail 50k, January 26th, 2008.
By place I mean top 3 women overall. After running my 8 mile loop on the trail yesterday, I decided that it is do-able if I put in the mileage and speedwork. After my failed attempt at 50 miles in Hell, Michigan, I have decided that I must first conquer a level of excellence with the 50k before attempting it again next year.
So January in northeast Ohio may as well be Siberia, but this works to my advantage because I love the cold. I run outside all winter long, and when I'm not running I'm skiing or boarding...the cold is some kind of steroid for me.
The real training will begin November 1st. This month will be spent in the gym working on my legs and upper body and averaging around 50 miles a week. Next month will be 3 days in the gym and 60 miles a week. December will be 3 days in the gym and 50 miles a week plus speed and hill workouts. January 1st week is 65, 2nd is 72, 3rd is 50 and then the race. All of the training runs in December and January will take place on the Buckeye Trail.
I work full time, am a part time student and volunteer. " I have no time," is not an excuse.
